$200 Bonus for Opening a Fidelity Account

[Updated 11/01/07: My wife just got this deal, so it is not limited to "one per household". You may also open it for your spouse and get another $200!]

[Updated 11/10/07: This deals is for new Fidelity customers only, YMMV. Existing Fidelity customers may only get $100 from step 3.]

[Updated 1/13/08: Readers are reporting that now the 2nd $100 is gone. But you can still get $100 and 15k miles.]

Many people know that they can get $100 when they open a Fidelity account. But I got $200, and 25k Mileage Plus miles. Here's what I did.

Step 1, go to this link, sign up, choose new account, click next, then confirm.

Step 2, If you are a member of UA Mileage Plus, go to this link, sign up, click next, then confirm. Click open a new account, choose regular investment account, and complete your application. Write down your account number. If you are a member of AA Mileage Plus, you can use this link. Mileage memberships are free to apply on UA and AA's websites.

Step 3, go to this link again, choose existing account and input your account number, sign up.

Step 4, log into your Fidelity account, transfer $10,000 from your bank account. Wait for 4-10 business days for $200 bonus and 15k miles. Discard emails that report problems to credit your bonus from Fidelity. If you call them, they will check your application and you will NOT get the 2nd $100.

Step 5, transfer the $10k out and in for 4 more times in 90 days to accumulate $50k in-amount to get extra 10k miles.

Good luck! Based on my and my friends' experience, usually it takes ~5 days to receive the cash and a little more time for the miles.

I am trying this deal for my wife and got an email this morning that said the $100 was going to credit her account. Actually I got $200 at the same time one day after I got the same email for my account.

I did step 1 & 2 but in step 3 when it asks for account number how do you get that. I dont have a account with fidelity.
thanks

In step 2 you need open a Fidelity account. Write down that account number and fill in step 3. Good luck!

Just to confirm. As a UA member, I still need to go through step 1, 2, and 3 to get the $200. Not just step 2 and 3, correct? And in the end, will I just have 1 single account? TIA.

Yes, step 1 is for the 1st $100 and step 3 is for the 2nd. You will have only one Fidelity account.

BTW, $200 has been credited to my wife's account! So the deal is NOT limited to "one per household"!

can you fund the account with a savings account (I have country wide) or should it be only checking account. CW has 5.5% rate for money and i don't want the 10K to be transferred back and forth between my almost no interest checking account.

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Yes, you can push your money from CW to Fidelity. You may also ask CW if your saving account has a ACH routing number. If yes, you can add your CW saving into your Fidelity account and transfer money between them.

Hei! I got the $200 this morning! Good deal! Thanks!

Got my $200 today. Great deal, thanks!

One question, I don't seem to be able to transfer my money out. I did link my bank account, but when I click the transfer money/share link, it only allow me to transfer to Fidelity account, not from. Is this "it takes 7-10 days to set up your account" thing? Or is there another way to transfer money out?

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Yes, the Fidelity Money Line takes 7-10 days to link your bank account for outbound transfer. And next time when you pull in money using Fidelity Money Line, it will be hold for 4-6 days in your fidelity account. But if you push money from your bank account into Fidelity, it will be availabe immediately for withdraw or transfer.

Glad to hear that you guys got the bonus.

Anyone tried this with more than one account under the same name? Or a joint and individual account?

Anonymous said...

So everyone that has received $200, was it one $200 credit, or two $100 credits? Were both received the same day?

I received $100 today. No sign of the other $100 yet.

FreeMoneyMaker said...

I got the 2 $100 at the same time. But some of my friends said they received them separately. Wait for a few days, if it does not show up, transfer the $10k out and in again to see your luck (you will do this in step 5 anyway). But do not call Fidelity as I mentioned in the post.

Hi there,

I need clarification on the steps.

Step 1 - it says register click next then confirm. Do you mean I fill out the new account application or just register? and move on to the next step?

Step 2 - You register your frequent flyer number for the 15k miles. Do you sign up for an investment account right after that? do you have to sign up for a new investment account if you already have one?

Step 3 - Which existing account are you using - the new investment account or can you use the account you just set up in step 1

Sorry I am a little confused and I want to make sure I am following all the steps correctly.

Thanks for the advice.

FreeMoneyMaker said...

1. Just register. Do not sign up new account.
2. Sign up for an new investment account right after that. But if you had a Fidelity account already, you may only get $100 for open a new one.
3. The new investment account from Step 2.

got the 20o and 15K miles. how do i transfer money to my bank account. I did the initial transfer from countrywide in to fidelity. when i want to transfer back they dont give option of the CW already added and so i tried "add bank" and gave info for the CW and it says cant add bcoz same info already in fidelity account information. I would actually like to transfer to CW from CWs website since they do 1 day ach but how do i link the fidelity in cw. Does fidelity have routing # and the account number is the brokerage # fidelity gave me (starting with X"

hi , I already have a fidelity IRA .. account do you think i will qualify

TIA

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Hi Raaj, you need wait for 7-10 days before you can transfer your money back. Also you can ask Fidelity about your account and routing numbers by phone or email. Just click "Contact Us" on their webpage. Be careful of your "cash availabe to withdraw" in you Fidelity account when you pull money from CW. BTW, did you see my post about another $100 for Fidelity Checking?

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Hi IRA account holder, you may try your luck. I think at least you will get $100 from step 3.

I never have received the second $100. I doubt it is coming. Must have done something wrong or they are on to it.

Any way to fund this with a credit card as a purchase?

Some deals such as the Bank of America checking bonus deal will allow funding as a cc purchase.

I have an individual account with Fidelity. Does anyone know if I sign up for a joint account will I count as a new customer?

The day after opening & funding my acct, this email arrived. Did not respond. Did everyone get this?

To the Anonymous, many people got the email. Just do nothing and wait for a few days, or transfer the $10k out and in again.

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Hi Young Gal, that's a good question. I do not know the answer but you can still get $100 from the mySmartCash deal.

Unknown said...

To get the additional 10K in airline mileage points, can you perform the 4 transfers via movement from the Smart Cash Account to the brokerage account?

Thanks,
cp

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Hi Chatan, I am not sure about that. I prefer to tranfer out Fidelity.

I opened an account for hubby and got $200 right away. Then I opened one for me, and I only got $100. I think they must have found this loophole and fixed it.

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Sorry to hear that. Could anyone got $200 after this comment report here please?

Anonymous said...

Thanks. The $200 is still working. Now waiting for the miles.

Anonymous said...

I just got the $200 today. Already had an employer 401k with Fidelity. Waiting on the miles now. How long does that ususally take after the $$?

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Usually the mile bonus appear 7-10 days after the $$. But I also heard someone got it after 1 month. Good luck! And don't forget the $100 from mySmartCash!

Anonymous said...

urpose of step 1? If you are not actually opening the account with that step, and you go back to that same link in step 3 as an exisiting account holder whatb does step 1 accomplish?

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Hi T, step 1 is for the 1st $100 and step 3 is for the 2nd. That's the trick of double dip.

Any one has try for their 4 year old child ? Can I open Investment account for child?

FreeMoneyMaker said...

You can do it for a child who has SSN and driver's license.

Anonymous said...

I got only $100 and 15000 United miles last week. They must have caught on that trick.

Unknown said...

Hi, I have opened an account using the links. I've recieved $100 and 15 K miles. Has anyone got the other $100 after this post. Thanks

Anonymous said...

How long do I need to keep the account after I received the bonus, half year? Thanks!

FreeMoneyMaker said...

Yes at least half a year. But you can just keep $1 there.

yoshapman said...

Can you really keep just $1. I know for Ameritrade where I got 20,000 SPG points for putting 25K in the account, you had to keep the 25K in your account for 9 months or they'd take away your points. This deal is great if I can keep just $1 in there. Can anyone else confirm that it's just $1? Can I put $50,000 in for just a week or 2 and then take it all out except $1?
